Understanding StoryBloom Ages

Context, not judgement.

Reading Age

Reading Age reflects the literacy skills often needed to read and understand a book, including vocabulary, sentence structure and comprehension.

Content Age

Content Age reflects the themes, ideas and emotional complexity explored in a book. It considers topics such as relationships, grief, conflict, identity, belonging and other discussion opportunities that may require additional maturity or context.

Why Both Matter

A child may be capable of reading a book independently while still benefiting from support, discussion or additional context around some of its themes.

StoryBloom provides information to help families make informed reading choices. We provide context, not judgement.
